Biography

Antonio Aiello graduated at the «Luigi Cherubini» State Conservatory of Florence under the guidance of Alberto Bologni. Then he completed his musical studies with Giuliano Carmignola at the Center de Musique Hindemith of Blonay, the Accademia Chigiana of Siena and the Musikhochschule Luzern, where he obtained with honor the Konzertdiplom and the Solistendiplom. At the same time, he also followed the classes of «Trio di Trieste» at the International Academy of Chamber Music of Duino. Antonio began to study music and the violin at the age of four, winning at just six year the 1st prize in the National Competition «Vincenzo Galilei» of Florence. Since then, he collected more than a dozen awards in national and international competitions.

He made his debut as a soloist at 11 years old and since then he regularly performed all over the world accompanied by numerous orchestras, such as Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, I Virtuosi Italiani, Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana, Orchestra Città di Ferrara, Orchestra Nazionale Artes, Tuscan Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Arché. Always as a soloist, he recorded live for RAI (the national public broadcasting company of Italy), for the German radio Mitteldeutsche Rudfunk and for the labels Modus and Edizioni Plus.

In addition to his career as a soloist, he gained considerable experience as concertmaster, invited by Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Orchestra Regionale Filarmonia Veneta, Ensemble Windkraft, Orchestra Milano Classica and Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato. At I Virtuosi Italiani, of which he is a permanent member, he frequently held this role, including on the occasion of an award-winning recording for the prestigious record label Deutsche Grammophone.

In the past he collaborated regularly with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Festival Strings Lucerne, but he can mention several contracts with other important symphony and chamber orchestras, such as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden, Orchestra Arena di Verona and Teatro Massimo di Palermo. In this context he had the opportunity to work with internationally renowned conductors, such as Claudio Abbado, John Eliot Gardiner, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Metha, Riccardo Muti and Trevor Pinnock.

Since 2004 he devoted himself to the philological study of ancient music and to the performance practice on original instruments, collaborating with Il Rossignolo, Ensemble Alraune and Sonatori Fiorentini, accompanied by whom he recorded the album «Diavolo & Follia» as a soloist for the label OnClassical.
